World-class photographer and Sony Ambassador, Tiffany Nguyen, reviews her favorite go-to capturing tool for professional photo work.
10MomentScore
The Sony A1 is easily the best camera I've ever had. For the type of work I do, no other camera bodies I've had in the past can compare to the A1. This camera can genuinely do it all, and I've been so happy with its performance throughout every challenging shooting situation I've thrown at it. The feature that stands out the most is how unbelievably fast the camera captures. Its lightning-fast autofocus and ability to take 30 frames per second have elevated my workflow and given me much more confidence shooting in the field. The A1 is the first Sony body I've used where I've felt comfortable enough to use it for both photo and video and know I don't have to worry about sacrificing quality. It's an absolute beast of a camera.

The most technologically advanced, innovative camera that Sony has ever released, the Alpha 1 combines high-resolution and high-speed performance at a level never previously reached. A 50.1-megapixel full-frame stacked Exmor RS™ image sensor capable of up to 30 fps continuous shooting with up to 120 AF/AE calculations per second, 8k 30p 10-bit 4:2:0 video, and so much more.
What We Love:
High Speed
The A1 offers an extraordinary combination of high resolution and blazing speed. Ultra-fast readout from the 50.1-MP sensor allows continuous bursts at up to 30fps 3 with AF and AE tracking using the electronic shutter. Perfect for situations where the critical action is over in an instant.
Auto-Focus
High-level subject recognition technology now makes it possible for Sony's Real-time Eye AF function to track and accurately focus on humans and animals or sudden changes in object movement.
4K Full Sensor
In the Super 35 mode, approximately 2.3x the amount of data required for QFHD 4K is acquired through full-frame readout with no pixel binning for beautiful imagery that is rich in detail.
The Details:
Brand: Sony
Product Type: Professional Mirrorless Camera
Best For: Professional and intermediate artists needing a versatile hybrid camera with exceptional photography and videography performance.
The Greatest Camera I've Ever Used
The first specialty I noticed with the Sony A1 was the sound of the shutter, so much so that it makes it a recognizable camera in the field. I also really took notice of how responsive the camera operates. I've always been impressed with the autofocus on Sony bodies, but this is easily the best it's ever been. It makes it nearly impossible not to nail the focus, and shooting in continuous mode with this camera is a dream. No blackout when shooting 30 FPS was also a game-changer for me.
The Highest Resolution Available
Having sharp images is extremely important for the kind of work that I do. I want to capture as much depth and detail as possible in every photograph. With 50.1 MP, this camera operates perfectly by delivering the sharpness and clarity my work requires while producing high-quality images without taking up excessive space on my hard drive. You could blow up the photos on a billboard if you wanted, and it allows you to crop in a ridiculous amount without losing any clarity. Its unprecedented resolution also comes in handy when I don't have a longer lens. It's the perfect camera for any landscape, wildlife, or lifestyle photographer.
Autofocus and burst speeds are some of the main features I look for in a camera. I need a tool that nails the focus as often as possible and can shoot burst photos when my subject is moving. If you have the opportunity to capture the perfect moment, but then the image is out of focus, that's probably one of the worst things a photographer can experience. I shoot different subjects, so it's fantastic to have the option of human, dog, or bird-eye autofocus. I don't have to worry about the camera doing its job, so I can devote more attention to getting the perfect composition.
For Video
I love that this camera is suitable for taking photos and can capture incredible video. It's lovely to have one camera body that can do it all. With 4K and 8K video capability along with 4:2:2 10-bit recording make a fantastic camera for shooting video content. I'm impressed with how easy it is to switch from shooting photos to capturing video in a split second. You risk missing the best moments when you have to change camera bodies, so it's great to be able to shoot photos and videos with one body. Another big plus is this camera's excellent battery life, and dual card memory slots are so clutch when shooting 4K/8K video.
